An Analysis of Job-Related Training Needs of Employees in Mental Health Related Institutions in Seoul

Abstract
Objective: The study aims to gain an insight of the most important and urgently needed job-training to secure the expertise of employees at mental health-related institutions in Seoul.

Methods: A questionnaire survey on the importance and performance of the employees of mental healthrelated institutions in Seoul was conducted to examine the significant difference in the means. For the IPA, common jobs were derived in the second quadrant (including the first quadrant), which was the priority intervention area, the area with high needs in the Borich need assessment, and the area corresponding to The Locus for Focus model HH quadrant. Based on the results, the educational needs were analyzed through conducting in-depth interviews.

Results: A t-test on the job importance and performance of the employees showed a significant result. Considering the common items in the area corresponding to the second quadrant, the top 10 in the Borich need assessment, and the area corresponding to the HH of The Locus for Focus model, the followings are the most urgent areas that requires training: supervision and organizational operation in the area of business planning and administration; cooperative system, key measures, basic evaluation in the area of emergency intervention; individual service, intervention plan in the area of case management.

Conclusion: The number of areas that require job-related training is 7, which not only requires prior intervention but also differentiated training according to the position and type of the employees. Furthermore, training involving various issues that respond to environmental changes caused by the revision of the Mental Health and Welfare Act should be conducted in parallel, and the development of a standardized curriculum should lead to follow-up research focused on common jobs.
